What do we do?

  • SKCV Children's Trust helps street children in South India who have no other form of support. Through SKCV Street Child Rescue Projects, multitudes of deprived youngsters are gaining a new self-confidence and self-esteem, which is enabling their inborn talents and capabilities to unfold naturally.

Who are Street Children?

Street Children are those unfortunate children:

  •  who have only intermittent contact with parents or family (usually mother or sisters) but live most of the time with other children in the city streets, or are on the move. {There are numerous reasons for a child to leave home}

  •  who have been literally abandoned by their parents/relatives, found themselves on the street from the beginning because of family problems, or have chosen to leave home due to some kind of constant abuse.

Those who have run away from home can be separated into two categories:

  •  Those who have an unpleasant or traumatic home environment, including child abuse.

  •  Those that experience family problems they are unable to solve: i.e., alcoholism, child abuse, ill treatment by stepparents, HIV/AIDS, unemployment and poverty. Their tolerance level has been far exceeded, leading to the drastic decision to leave their family and home to become street children.

  An SKCV Profile

  • A registered Charitable Trust in India, UK and Holland, the Trust works DIRECTLY with kids who have no other form of support.  SKCV is presently running/planning seven major child development Street Children Rescue Centres in South India.  They are:

1.  A Night Shelter and Day Care Centre for children still on the streets
2.
A 24 hour Three Ward Charitable Hospital with emergency facility
3.  A Non Formal School for street children (with three annexes)
4.  A Residential and Day Care Centre for Street Girls
5.  Two Comprehensive Children's Villages with complete facilities for both girls and boys
6.  An Organic Farm & Dairy Project managed by street children
7.  Comprehensive Vocational Training Programmes for older children especially computer training.

Local Coordination
Our organisation is jointly successful in setting up, and supporting, Child Line free booth (Dial 1098) on Vijayawada Railway Station for earliest intervention for runaway children and street kids in India. This was achieved through proper and ongoing sensitisation of Railway and Police authorities.  We are also successful in encouraging the District Collector, Police Commissioner, Municipal Commissioner, Mayor, Dty. Mayor, Assistant Labour Commissioner and other local administrative authorities to act on the problems of street children as part of their annual agenda. This includes a considerable specific annual budget authorised by the local council for street child welfare. We have also set up and maintain programmes for HIV/AIDS, Non-formal education, the Girl Child and volunteer work.
